I am experienced in action research/after action reviews and co-operative inquiry, narrative approaches, critical incident analysis, case studies, survey research, and quasi-experimental designs (with control groups). My approach it to adapt methodologies to suit each project. I have a track record of being able to carefully mix different methods and still keep the project model simple and rigorous. I find the result is better in terms of service improvement and design, evaluation, and research, offering higher quality outcomes.

I am happy with qualitative and quantitative data collection, including documentary analysis, publication research, interviews and focus groups, observations, surveys, Delphi studies, and embedded data collection. Analysis can be collaborative or consultative and I am careful to show the connection between findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Presentation of findings can confidential (most of my project reports) or for public consumption. They can be independent or co-produced with commissioners, staff, research participants, and service users. The format can be a single document or part of a suite of outputs including strategy, policy, service design and specification/improvement, cost-benefit analysis, practice guidance, training courses or manuals, conferences, and/or community education.
